Essence 2018 - Who's Ready?!

The lineup for Essence 2018 has been least partially and so far we have Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Fantasia, Snoop Dogg, 112, Xscape, Idris Elba, Miguel, The Roots, Teddy Riley, Blackstreet, Guy and still more to come.

This year's concerts are going to be all the way live! I feel a 90's throwback session coming on and I'm ready for real for real. I'll be right there with my hair braided in a basket weave with some big ol hoops and nails out to there. I mean c'mon Xscape, Guy, Teddy Riley, 112, this lineup has some 90's swag, mixed in with some black girl magic and some it's a family affair to it...we know what time it is.

My flight and hotel are booked. If yours isn't click here: and get it together. All I need to do is decide which nights I'm going to the show and pack. How tough is that going to be?!

If I haven't mentioned it, I am so excited to see all of these artists in one place. So much good music. Umm, ummm, ummm like good food just good for the soul. Yasss. So many favorites by these artists, such as...

1. Cupid by 112
2. Kickin it by Xscape
3. Anything by Erykah Badu (I mean its freakin Erykah Badu!!)
4. Pleasure Principal by Janet Jackson
5. A long Walk by Jill Scott
6. Adore by Miguel
7. So many songs by Snoop...
8.. Guy's whole catalog....too name a few.

It's gonna be a party y'all...all the members of Xscape will be in the building to perform together! I am overjoyed. Partly because I missed The Great Xscape tour when it came to my neck of the woods and I also missed their performance last year at Essence so they say the third time is a charm and this will be my third opportunity to see them and very well may be my last to see all four of these fabulous queens and my fav RHOA Kandi Burress live on stage. I cannot miss this.

Will you be in attendance? Who are you anxious to see? Who are you hoping will be in the lineup that isn't yet? I can think of a few, such as...

Until next time...Go forth and read, comment and share!! Bye loves :)

Black Twitter takes us to #BlackHogwarts...

The other day while on Twitter I seen the trending topic of #BlackHogwarts.  The replacement of black actors, musicians and celebrities within the realm of Harry Potter and the memes, gifs and comments produced by that trending topic propagated uproarious laughter throughout the land. The melanin congregation came through with their uniqueness, nerve and talent...shout out to RuPaul. I love US. Read on below and get your cackles on...

Protective Hairstyles Deserve 2 Thumbs up and a Twist Out

I love wearing protective hairstyles! Love them. Love them. Love them. And the reasons why are firstly, because the less I mess with my hair the better. No heat and no excessive use of hair care products causing more washing and drying and again messing with my hair. Hello. Another thing I like about protective hairstyles are their versatility for me...that is...and the various ways the styles can be worn. Such as weaves, wigs and braids, so many varieties of styles.

Braids can be worn up, down, in an updo, in a ponytail, a french roll, we can curl the braids and wear them down, pinned up, in a bun with ringlets on the sides or you can have half the braids up and half of them down. They're just extremely versatile.  Size definitely doesn't get micro minis, pencil size, crochet, locs, feed in, Ghana, french, goddess braids...they are universal and easy for some to do. In order to be happy with your braids, please do your research and seek out someone who is proficient in the style you want.  They can be a bit time consuming installing but easy to maintain and will have you looking and feeling like the Queen you are. #webequeenin

There are lots of products out there for maintaining your braids, to help keep your scalp moisturized and  to keep your braids smelling and looking fresh. Here's an article with detailed info on keeping your scalp and hair right and tight, click here: Braids are also low maintenance especially when travelling. Even though I don't actually wear micro minis because I just can't deal with the amount of time it takes to put them in and take them down my friends, family members and daughters often do.  It's just too much for me personally. My preference is goddess braids which are bigger and generally I get an updo sometimes I get little pins with pearls or the little gold clips to add a more decorative look to the style.

As I mentioned earlier, my preference is goddess braids however when my daughters were younger I often got their hair done in individuals or Box braids or other various styles because they're so easy to maintain and that would save me time from doing their hair everyday. They also played sports and things like that so it wasn't a lot of hassle for them.  They could put it in a bun for cheer, soccer or basketball practice and keep it out of their face and keep it cute.

"Everybody has choices" my E40 voice. It has nothing to do with wanting to be something that I'm not. Yes, I can wash my hair, flat iron it, press it and still be parted down the middle sexy and sassy.  I have long thick hair that is passed my shoulder.  I can watch a tutorial that my own hairdresser made and copy it move by move and my hair still won't look like it does when I leave the shop. Besides, do I really wanna put that heat on my hair? No,I don't so my preference is to reach into my hair bag of tricks and repertoire and show up and show out. I have to dye my hair because of my genetics. I've been dying my hair since I was 19-years-old. I am destined to be a Silver Fox like this gorgeous doll pictured and when I'm ready to embrace that and be a Silver Fox then I will wear that crown proudly but as for right now I'm cool so therefore I prefer protective hairstyles because is less maintenance on my hair, less products in my hair, less weight on my hair and because I have to dye my hair. That's enough damaging chemicals that's going into my hair and I prefer to give it a break.

If you read this post and you disagree with me please leave a comment so we can start a conversation about that because it's your hair, you keep your hair clean, conditioned and braided up underneath you're protecting it that makes it a protective style. Now I believe some people disagree with weaves and wigs because they look at it like an opportunity for you to shun your racial identity and attempt to adopt someone else's basically. However, I personally am just lazy with my hair and like the easy peasy options wigs and weaves provide. It has nothing to do with wanting to be other than and it has more so to do with less dying, heat, product usage and wear and tear on my own hair and more so saving of time and energy doing my hair every day-and having a quick alternative, ya dig? I like the fact that it's Monday and I might wanna wear China bangs. Tuesday I might wanna be parted down the middle sexy and sassy...and so on and so forth. Ya dig?

Braids are definitely my number one favorite protective hair style next to weaves and wigs. My hair is natural underneath so I don't understand why there is such a division and debate amongst women regarding wigs and weaves. I read a comment on Facebook the other day that said women who wear weaves and/or wigs lack creativity and are just lazy. I'll be the first to admit I am lazy with my hair at times. I dye my hair regularly and may not feel like dealing with that and put it off for a couple of days by sporting a hat or a hair hat. That's my prerogative. That doesn't make my hair less natural than the next females, does it?
