Who's The King of RnB?

The other day Cash Money Record /HipHop/RnB singer Jacquees declared himself "the King of RnB for this generation" meaning ages 16 - 25 year olds much to the annoyance of almost everyone who heard his statement. Folks came out of the wood works near and far with the backlash. His declaration also sparked a debate on social media between himself and popular crooners past and present. Names being tossed in the ring are Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, Chris Brown, RKelly, Trey Songz, Bryson Tiller, Tank, Usher, Frank Ocean, Tory Lanez, 6LACK, Tyrese, Brian McKnight, Keith Sweat...the list can go on and on to the break of dawn.

The "Radio Killa" himself The Dream even proposed an allstar RnB concert tour featuring some of the above mentioned names which undoubtedly would be a great tour as long as everyone keeps their ego in check and is up to the challenge. On December 16th he tweeted:

"Actually we all need to give the world back this gift we have and do a King’s Tour. @chrisbrown @TreySongz @Usher @rkelly @brysontiller @TheRealTank@HERMusicx I have noooo Ego most of you know that all ready! I’ll Open no problem. Also do some inner city music w/kids🤷🏽‍♂️ jussayin..."

Tory Lanez has since issued a challenge to Jacquees himself, saying during a recent performance, "Tell that nigga Jacquees to holler at me one time. Tell ’em to holla at me. That’s my bro, but tell ’em to holla at me." Uh oh...is Jacquees out here making frenemieeeeees?

Bobby Brown, the self-proclaimed reigning King of Rnb, has issued a challenge to Jacquees and anyone else thinking they can snatch the throne. He told TMZ  “They want the title, they have to battle me,” he said. “That’s if you want the title, you have to battle me. I didn’t really want to talk about it, but I’ve been seeing it on Instagram and social media and to me, it’s like, you want the title, battle me. Live on stage. Me vs. Anybody. It doesn’t matter who it is,” he continued. According to Mr. Brown the ONLY person worthy of the title other than himself is Usher.

Everyone is chiming in on the topic from Nick Cannon to Birdman with some with and some against. The whole thing is good press for Jacquees and bring him a lot of attention. He said 2018 was one of his best years yet and it's looking like he's off to a good start for 2019.

I've got to tell you, this whole conversation has stirred up a lot of questions as to who actually IS the King of RnB and where other RnB singers fit in the King's court like who's the Prince, Duke and etc. As well as where are some of our favorite RnB sangers like Carl Thomas, Joe, Donnell Jones, Case and RL to name a few...and where do they fall in this quest to name the King of RnB?

Of course the internet had to have their fun with this whole King of RnB debacle with memes, jokes even comedians such as Kevonstage are having their say, check out this recently posted video.

I think I have the perfect solution. I need Jermaine "JD" Dupree to get his people to call my people so we can get together and collaborate on my idea which is a show similar to The Rap Game but it will be the RnB Game. Just like his Rap Game with the kids, we'll have all of the above mentioned singers, and a few I may not have mentioned *charge it to my head and not my heart*, they'll be judge by a panel of industry OGs, have challenges and through the process of elimination a King of RnB will rise to wear the crown! What do y'all think!?

You know You Got Gu Wop On Your Breath...

Gucci Mane is home and he hit the ground running, being Mr. Flamboyant and talking shit. Like he said on Kanye's heavy weighted collabo "Champions" he's fresh out the Feds on a mothafucka and they ain't ready yet for a mothafucka! I digs that song and not just Gucci's verse all the artists on that collab brought some flavor to the mix. They compliment each other, their verses placed in perfect succession one building on the next. That song gets you hyped up. Well, it gets me hyped up. Hell, have you heard it? Then you know what I'm sayin...

But back to Gucci, he's everywhere and I'm lovin it. Get this man a McDonald's endorsement. I had a conversation with someone who wasn't very familiar with Gucci's music so I tried to put him up on thangs by playing him some of my all-time favorites like Lemonade (yea we've been sippin on the Lemonade prior to Bey), Married to the money, Bricks and Nasty Girl to name a few but now that he has returned you can't miss him.

As I go on my daily commutes listening to Hip-Hop Nation or Sway in the Morning on Sirius XM, I'm realizing we're living in Gucci World. He has gotten on a lot of collabos, he got us Vibin in this Bih with Kodak Black; Back on Road with the 6 God Drake and we're always down to ride with Dreezy and Gucci Mane.

Noticeably, Gucci is enjoying the mass use of and importance and prominence of social media especially the Gram and Snapchat; both of his be poppin like hot buttered popcorn.
You can catch him flossin on the Snap with his "diamonds dancing like Chris Brown" or Usher Raymond. He's got that ghetto D-liverance on Urshur's No Limit G Mix. Making em say uhhhhhh...so, whether you prefer the new, thinner, healthier Gucci or the original that captured our attention in the first place you gotta know Gucci Mane is home, back where he belongs, doing his thang and we're here for it. Buckle your seat belts because I'm sure there's plenty more in store for us living in Gucci World.

Did you see your boy opening the BET Hip Hop Awards with Travis Scott? Here's a video of Gucci making an appearance on the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour alongside the Queen Bee Lil Kim letting everybody know she still is a very Freaky Girl....

Gucci has been tearing up stages from coast to coast but his performance at this year's Coachella was lit. Listening to it on Sirius got me in my car dancing and singing along like I'm at the club. His performance set included some of his older tracks like Lemonade,  Photo shoot and Bricks as well as current ones like St. Bricks and Pussy Print.

Until next time...Go forth and read, comment and share!! Bye loves :)
