Who's The King of RnB?

The other day Cash Money Record /HipHop/RnB singer Jacquees declared himself "the King of RnB for this generation" meaning ages 16 - 25 year olds much to the annoyance of almost everyone who heard his statement. Folks came out of the wood works near and far with the backlash. His declaration also sparked a debate on social media between himself and popular crooners past and present. Names being tossed in the ring are Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, Chris Brown, RKelly, Trey Songz, Bryson Tiller, Tank, Usher, Frank Ocean, Tory Lanez, 6LACK, Tyrese, Brian McKnight, Keith Sweat...the list can go on and on to the break of dawn.

The "Radio Killa" himself The Dream even proposed an allstar RnB concert tour featuring some of the above mentioned names which undoubtedly would be a great tour as long as everyone keeps their ego in check and is up to the challenge. On December 16th he tweeted:

"Actually we all need to give the world back this gift we have and do a King’s Tour. @chrisbrown @TreySongz @Usher @rkelly @brysontiller @TheRealTank@HERMusicx I have noooo Ego most of you know that all ready! I’ll Open no problem. Also do some inner city music w/kids🤷🏽‍♂️ jussayin..."

Tory Lanez has since issued a challenge to Jacquees himself, saying during a recent performance, "Tell that nigga Jacquees to holler at me one time. Tell ’em to holla at me. That’s my bro, but tell ’em to holla at me." Uh oh...is Jacquees out here making frenemieeeeees?

Bobby Brown, the self-proclaimed reigning King of Rnb, has issued a challenge to Jacquees and anyone else thinking they can snatch the throne. He told TMZ  “They want the title, they have to battle me,” he said. “That’s if you want the title, you have to battle me. I didn’t really want to talk about it, but I’ve been seeing it on Instagram and social media and to me, it’s like, you want the title, battle me. Live on stage. Me vs. Anybody. It doesn’t matter who it is,” he continued. According to Mr. Brown the ONLY person worthy of the title other than himself is Usher.

Everyone is chiming in on the topic from Nick Cannon to Birdman with some with and some against. The whole thing is good press for Jacquees and bring him a lot of attention. He said 2018 was one of his best years yet and it's looking like he's off to a good start for 2019.

I've got to tell you, this whole conversation has stirred up a lot of questions as to who actually IS the King of RnB and where other RnB singers fit in the King's court like who's the Prince, Duke and etc. As well as where are some of our favorite RnB sangers like Carl Thomas, Joe, Donnell Jones, Case and RL to name a few...and where do they fall in this quest to name the King of RnB?

Of course the internet had to have their fun with this whole King of RnB debacle with memes, jokes even comedians such as Kevonstage are having their say, check out this recently posted video.

I think I have the perfect solution. I need Jermaine "JD" Dupree to get his people to call my people so we can get together and collaborate on my idea which is a show similar to The Rap Game but it will be the RnB Game. Just like his Rap Game with the kids, we'll have all of the above mentioned singers, and a few I may not have mentioned *charge it to my head and not my heart*, they'll be judge by a panel of industry OGs, have challenges and through the process of elimination a King of RnB will rise to wear the crown! What do y'all think!?

Rap Game Season 3

Here he is y'all...the winner of Rap Game Season 3...hailing from Reading, PA 16 year old Nova. Smooth, suave, swag-a-docious, lyrical and the one with the chain.

First, let me start this off by giving respect where respect is due. Nova, you did your thang thang. He was clearly T.T.G. and ready from the gate. He managed to hit first place more often than not and was acing challenges left and right. He definitely deserved to win and no one can take that away from him. He was the obvious choice for JD and we as fans of the show are ecstatic to see another young star on the rise. He's not wasting no time either and has recently released "Stay Over" featuring Cash Money Record's Jacquees.

Now though I might have saw that coming from the beginning of Rap Game Season 3; by the middle of the season I saw that a lil star in the making sporting a bow tie and a crown was beginning to shine brighter and brighter with each challenge. King Roscoe. Won’t HE do it! This boy was coming from the rear and began tearing shizz up! I was enthralled by this young man and especially at that rap battle challenge!! He was a beast in that challenge and undoubtedly rattled some cages. No one was expecting ya boy to hit em hard like dat! Two of his competitors actually admitted that they were not even prepared to battle him. #datway

No one was and he did that with a shoulder lean and brush off of his shoulders. Mean. Just mean. The boy got skills. He’s definitely a contender and I look forward to seeing what opportunities come his way to keep him on the rise.

Good luck to all of this years contenders. They all did a fantastic job at displaying the skills they entered the game with and packing more tools into their toolboxes for the future of their rap careers. I’m excited to see what’s next for this youngstas.

The winners and kids from seasons past recently embarked on JD’s So So Summer Tour. Yassss gawd. The tour included Miss Mulatto, Mani, Lil Key, Nia Kay and more.

I'm sure it was a treat for fans and a great experience for the performers alike. I wish it had come to San Diego. I would have loved to support the kids by coming out and seeing them perform live and in living color. Maybe next year I'll get my chance. #fingerscrossed

What do you think of the Rap Game? Are you a fan? Do you watch the show? Do you think JD's on the money with the winners he has chosen thus far? Or is he missing the mark?

The Rap Game Season 2: And the winner is....

You can say what you want about the West Coast 16 year old youngster that snagged a contract and iced-out chain from So-So Def and Jermaine "JD" Dupri our Rap Game Season 2 Winner Damani "Mani" Brown but this little ninja pull a rabbit out of a hat in the finale. This little ninja pulled a rabbit out of a hat I tell ya.
And wow...that finale...those performances...the suspense...whoa I didn't see it coming but I was thrilled at the big reveal. One by one they were dismissed...and then there was one...Mani.

He showed up and showed out and even spoke on being the underdog.  The boy came to win. Now Mani wasn't it the obvious choice you know. Anyone that said they knew JD was going to pick Mani could only say that if they was paying close attention.  Like with Snoop Dogg, Snoop gave Mani a thumbs up. Also Mariah Carey, she straight said it "I know your type" referring to what she perceived as JD's likelihood and track record of choosing to roll with what he likes and Mani fitting the bill. There were some other you know hints along the way.

I kind of thought, and was rooting for, he was going to pick 14 year old Chicago native Nia Kay because she seems to be the total package like Miss Mulatto. She came in with a fan base, focused and her style down pat. You know she switched it up at the finale so I was shocked when she left before Mani.

It was really a nail biter for me because after near win last season with another West Coast Californian in the house representing Lil Niqo I thought we weren't gonna snag that prized possession but Mani pulled it off. I'm proud of all the contestants, they all did the damn thang and I know we haven't heard the last of any of them.  Here's the finale episode with all of the performances.

Do you think JD picked the right winner?
