Girl..This Is Your Jam
So I'm sitting here writing and listening to music and everything is all good then this song comes on by Sunshine Anderson. This song used to bump. It had all the chicks in the club with their hands up and getting their boogie on. It was like the I Caught You Cheatin and Now It's a Wrap Anthem. Every female was bumping it and every dude hated to hear it, dance to it or hear a female singing it. It was like it was the song that came before a serious man bashing session because once the song went off it was time for women to share their experiences that caused them to relate and identify with the song.
Every season has that song that evokes an emotion so powerful that you not only identify with it you keep it on replay, record it on your voicemail (yes...I said that. You know you did that at least once or twice) and quote the words in a letter or text if you didn't play the song on ol boy's voicemail. . There was Sharissa's "Any Other Night" then Erykah's "Tyrone" and then we segued on to Sunshine's "Heard It All Before". That song slipped right into rotation and ran with it.
These songs are not necessarily men bashing songs they're more along the Sparke "When A Woman's Fed Up" line of thinking. They are just there for mental stimulation and to put something on your mind and spark a thought or conversation in the right direction towards whatever that might be for you and yours. Once that direction is carved out in your mind then follow it like that yellow brick road they followed in that mythical movie and skip along the road to Keyshia's "Let It Go" and keep it moving towards your own internal peace and happiness because you have to have that to maintain regardless if you stay or if you go. Care to share? What songs spark your buttons?

What are your favorite quotes of all time?
My favorite quote of anything "of all time" would probably change with my mood, day, feeling and etc. I may quote a rap on twitter because I'm feeling that emotion that day or am having a relateable episode in my life that I feel would be best described by what Ice Cube, Biggie, Tupac or Victor Newman had to say at that moment. I rose with the dawn, handled my business, everything went as planned with my day with no hiccups "today was a good day" a la Ice Cube or "there's gonna be a lot of slow singing and flower bringing if my burgular alarm starts ringing" as Biggie said...in other words it wasn't a good day. Now, I'm on one. Thanks Drake.
Once upon a time, I read Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls. A classic book published circa 1966 that dramatizes what we currently see on reality tv shows in the nature of the Real Housewives franchise before reality tv and the rise of Jackie Collins. Anyway, in the book an aging actress, Jennifer is facing the race against Father Time. With her beauty fading, she is told that she needs to get some 'work' done to compete with the hot, young beauties of Hollywood. "Don't ever get it into you head that you have anything else to offer," she's told. Harsh.
I'll probaby think of something else I wanna quote the minute I press publish. Enlighten me...what are you favorite quotes of all time or of right now?

A Little Bit of Sin..."Only on the Four Corners..."

“He put flix of sis’s panties on TheSpizzot.com and was talking a bunch of shit like he’s been swacking or something. Not my sister. Naww, blood game. Fuck that, I had to klack on that nigga hard!” he said. His voice was tainted with a protective edge that I’d never heard before. Kerry must have lost his damn mind. I was finally parked and attempted to get out of my seat. Oh, the beat down was coming and it was coming right now. I couldn’t get out quick enough. In my haste to put foot to ass I had forgotten about the seat belt. The strap held me hostage against the seat as I struggled to get free. Plus my big ass belly slowed me down. Once outside the car I rushed to the sliding side door. Kerry looked at me from his window like he didn’t know what was up. When he realized the real he attempted to lock the door but mama still had some speed and I snatched the side door open a second quicker and dove in wailing on him. I connected with his eye. He covered his face with one hand and began waving me off with the other.
“Maw…mama.…” He squawked looking more like Nino than I wanted to see, especially now. His usually dark brown eyes turned black as what was going on registered in his mind and he attempted to get away from me. He quickly slid to the other side and tried to open the door but I was on him, wailing, wind-milling and punching. I grabbed a handful of his t-shirt with one
hand will trying to get a good grip on his jeans with the other. I wanted to get a good grip on him and straight whoop his ass. However, he wriggled free from me like a slippery fish revealing his tighty-whitey boxer briefs which eerily instantly reminded me of the stained pair in my garage. That extraordinary day seemed like eons ago but scarily relevant. Oh hell to tha naww! The shock
and embarrassment of my possible misconception fueled my need to fight harder and temporarily boosted my inertia. I continued trying to keep my son in the back of my van so I could simultaneously knock some sense into him while knocking the shit outta him but his will to escape was stronger and easier without a big ol’ belly so I had to realize the agony of defeat. I thought about biting his silly ass but I was out of breath and blinded by a splitting headache,
my heart felt like it was going to explode in my chest any moment. I was sure tears were streaming down my face, everything looked blurry. In a haste to get away from me, Kerry propelled himself through the other door, kicking me in the chest in the process. He took off running down Imperial. By now rubberneckers were watching the show, cruising by at a snail’s pace or just standing on the block trying to get a closer look. I felt like I was on Moms Gone Wild. Only on the Four Corners, I commiserated.

NO COUPON IS REQUIRED according to various sites so if it isn't too late for you to hit your local KFC up I suggest you do so before it turns to mayhem and bedlam like it has in the past! Those ol tattoos...

Up until today I've never thought about how a tattoo would look like a dozen years from now even my own. The thought ventured into my mind while I was enjoying a vast array of food at a buffet when the topic of tattoos came up. Me and the rest of my party started discussing tattoos that we had or those of friends of ours or tattoos that we've seen in general and where they are positioned on the body. One person mentioned their own tattoo that's right above their private area. Now when they were young, fly and flashy I bet that tattoo was a sight to see but now that they're...let's just say living out their golden years...I'm sure the tatt has been covered by a carpet of salt and pepper and only serves as a reminder of how things were in the good ol days. Is that the destiny of all tattoos? I see bare-chested dudes with washboard abs all tattooed up and now I'm wondering...what's his chest and abdomen gonna look like 15 years from now if he develops a beer belly? Will the words stretch across his stomach like the writing of a balloon when there's too much air in it and become illegible? Some of us ladies might be in the same boat. I'm curious to know how some of these inked up folks are gonna look upteen years from now once their bodies aren't so young, fit and tight. Can you imagine what Lil Wayne's, The Game's or Fiddy's tatts are gonna look like? I'm gonna make a mental note to revisit this topic upteen years from now for comparison.

The Pantie Run

So...everyone has their own embarrassing moment and prior to this morning mine consisted of a jog back down memory lane. Back in the day I used to work at the DA's office. During my stint there there was a particular DA that was a single parent of a couple of daughters (don't remember how many). He was often in the news and such because of his reputation as a good DA. He was looked up to and considered a successful individual.
I was a single parent also and we would talk about the life, trial and tribulations of being a single parent. He had been one way far longer than I but still his anecdotes and advice was appreciated. One particular lunch break I decided that instead of going out I would take a little napp-i-poo at my desk because I was tired. So in my disengaged sleepiness I remember hearing my name being called. It was the DA. He was ever so graciously asking me for a file that he had been working on earlier. Of course I had the file...I was drooling on it!! The epitome of a gentleman, the DA took his hanky out of his suit pocket and wiped my spittle off of the file and tallihoo-ed on about his business. Up until this morning that is what I considered my most embarrassing moment.
So...I'm home making my morning cup of tea when I get a call from my son's school. I answer and it's my son whispering in the phone. Though he is whispering his tone is not one of juvenile giddiness it is of perturbation. He informs me that he has a pair of my panties inside of his backpack at school!! Ohmigawd!! A pair of my panties...The image of my son's backpack unzipped and opened on my bedroom floor right next to my bed suddenly flashes across my subconscious.
At first I think I'll tell him to just toss them in the trash but then I think...he doesn't want to touch my panties! And he sure as hell doesn't want to touch them in front of the other kiddies...so I had to bust a covert op and run to the school and secretly extract the, turns out black Baby Phat thong, from the backpack. Of course I got a flat on the way and had to stop to get air and then get a tire on the way home. These turned out to be some expensive ass drawls!
So until another embarrassing moment happens my way this ish here, this ish here...is the reigning champion.

Finally

I finally took time out to watch Will Smith's flick Hancock, which I blogged about awhile back. I will have to disagree with the naysayers it was a pretty good flick. I enjoyed it.
I luv flicks with special effects and the special effects in this flick are incredible. Ish is going down that you wouldn't believe and they seem to be performed effortlessly like the stuff that is being done is suppose to happen like flinging refrigerators or stopping a car on the freeway with your feet like Fred Flintstone happens all day.
I'm looking forward to part 2. You know how some movies end with a possibility of a part deaux. I'm definitely expecting to see this saga continue.

RIP to Oscar Grant III, an unarmed, handcuffed black man who was shot in the back by a police officer, while 2 more held him down, who claims he mistook his gun for his tazer on New Years Day 09 in Oakland, CA. I have attached a video of the shooting for those who haven't seen it and/or are in the dark about the situation. I just found out about the incident today myself.
I read thru some of the comments on youtube.com where the vid was posted and can hardly believe some of the comments people are posting. Folks are bickering over whether the incident is racially motivated or not, which ethnicity is more racist than the next and some more ish.
The fact of the matter is an unarmed and handcuffed man is dead and the person responsible needs to be held accountable. Any Questions!?!

Merry Christmas 2 All...

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to take a second and wish everyone who stops by my little spot of sunshine a Merry Christmas. I am spending the holiday in Alamagordo, New Mexico with my family.
I ventured into the hotel's lobby this morning for breakfast and picked up a magazine about the city's attractions. Apparently the city has become a booming site for movie production. According to several pieces of literature I found there several popular movies feature scenes shot near here including both Transformer films! And the very same hotel I'm staying housed the crews. I just missed George Clooney by a couple of weeks.
I must say I was surprised to read that and to hear confirmation from hotel staff. I have been visiting this little dusty town for years because members of my family were station at Holloman Airforce Base, worked at the White Sands Missile Range and lived here. When my cousin first moved here she described the tiny town as having nothing to see but a snake and a cactus.
We arrived on Christmas eve and have been canoodling with family and friends and all is well.
I just wanted to send out some luv for the rest of the world and am hoping everyone is enjoying their holiday as well.
Much luv...

The one with the supa dupa big ol fro...

Recently I discovered the world of the Afro Samurai. At the recent Comic Con held here in San Diego, I happened upon an exhibit that featured the Xbox 360 and I want to say some new games that they would be unveiling soon. It was a while ago and the games are probably out by this time but anyway one of the games was Afro Samurai. So my son played the game for a bit and I was checking it out and thought it was an aiight game. What I didn't know at the time was that the Afro Samurai series was gonna blow my mind in the near future. So, I rent the season 1 dvd and am checking out the Afro Samurai. Ohhhh, that Number 2. He's definitely a bad mofo. You know that saying 'the wrong one to f#*k with?'. Yea, that's him. I'm lovin the show. There's martial arts, witty commentary, gore, vulgarity, obscenity, you'll love it. The RZA did the music and of course its banging as well. The beats will have your head bobbing while you're watching Number 2 slice and dice a sucka. Its the bomb. I'm looking forward to Afro Samurai 2 Resurrection. I'll be waiting with bated breath and for those of you who are on the late freight like myself here's a clip of what you've been missing and need to get a bar of.

Cell Therapy

So this pic of Obama and the fam is floating through the cell phone highway attached to the theme song of The Jeffersons. You know the one "well, we're moving on up to the eastside. To a de...luxe apartment in the s...k..y..yy..." Hey, I like the thought of upgrading, getting our bars up, taking it to the next level and most of all luv the fact that our president elect is Barack Obama, yes I voted, and all that but the theme song to The Jeffersons? I don't know about that one. It seems to detract from the big picture.
Anywho, I luv this pic of the Obamas and props to whomever did the graphics on this pic from the photo to the lettering. This is a good one.

Hancock-a-mania

Word has it that Will Smith's latest movie "Hancock" a non-traditional superhero movie with a surprising twist to it. The character is considered a "bum superhero" and according to Smith is "rude and mean to kids." I am planning on checking out the flick this weekend. So far the reviews are ranging from one extreme to another. It seems people either hate or love it. I heard on the radio yesterday that this is his 8th movie to gross over $50 million dollars opening weekend including several that hit theatres Fourth of July weekends. That's nothing to laugh at, could all of those people have been duped into thinking this would be a great movie and got their feelings hurt while sitting within the cool confines of the darkened, air-conditioned theatre eating over-priced candy and slurping on expensive fountain driks? That remains to be told. I'm sure the die-hard Will Smith fans loved the movie. It is said to contain great special effects not just the trumped up computer generated ones though one complaint I read today is that the movie is all over the place; however, I am still interested in checking it out for myself like the millions of other folks have.

AUTHOR CONCLUDES JOURNEY AND PUBLISHES LONG ANTICIPATED NOVEL
San Diego, Ca, April 23, 2008— Freelance journalist, entrepreneur, and now published author Nicole “Nikki Nicole” Cunningham unleashes her debut novel on the public at large and poses the million dollar question.
What makes a good relationship go bad relationship is the million dollar question nowadays; however, what we learn from them as individuals is our own life lesson. Sinatra Graham is a supportive wife, loving mother and savvy business woman who, for all intents and purposes has it going on, until that pivotal ‘one thing’ happens and the domino effect ensues and she’s thrust into a world where nothing is as it appears to be.
In A Little Bit of Sin, Sinatra’s life takes a sudden detour when she discovers her husband’s briefs smeared with lipstick—and it’s not her shade. With her marriage on the rocks, Sinatra confronts her own relationship demons and revisits a past love, the father of her first child. But after she watches how her cousin struggles to find a good man and fails miserably, Sinatra decides to take a closer look at her marriage and decide how to proceed.
Sinatra keeps her children’s home life stable while She’s Gotta Have It, her beauty shop, keeps her busy as she tries to develop it into a successful business. But an unexpected pregnancy and uncertainty over who the baby’s father is adds a whole new dimension to her life.

A Little Bit of Sin - Excerpt
decaf, Carmel Macchiato with a double shot of espresso, extra caramel,
whipped cream and requested that the drink be made upside down so the
espresso would be blended in and not the first thing to tarnish my taste buds. I
waited the few minutes looking around the lobby and salivating over the pastries
until my drink was finally ready. I took one sip of the seething hot liquid
and instantly noticed the acidic taste of burnt coffee, also noting that there was
definitely no whip cream or caramel only foam.
Oh hell to tha naw, I thought. “Excuse me!” I exclaimed, making my way
back to the counter. The line parted like the Red Sea as I approached. “That’s
right, disgruntled black bitch with hot coffee, step to da left,” I said, as I
zoomed to the head of the line, my eyes darting to the uniform of my victim
and searched out her name.
“LeeAnn … um, I requested that my coffee be made upside down and
ordered whipped cream and extra caramel and paid an extra thirty cents and
there ain’t hide nor hair of some whip cream and only a speck of caramel in
this damn cup. Whassup with that?” I slammed the cup of liquid on the
counter in front of the clerk, not giving a flying f&*k that I had caused the top
to fly off and hot scalding coffee to go flying in the air. The clerk quickly
jumped back to avoid getting burned. Smart move. My own hand was still on
the cup and hot liquid spilled over causing instantaneous searing pain pushing
me over the edge. “I just want what I asked and paid for!” I screeched. I was
pissed, more so at myself and the stupid position I was in than at these people.
I was having a helluva bad day. Surely, they’ve got an order messed up before
and didn’t nobody come back in the store and throw the hot s*@t back at them.
But hey, that’s Murphy Law, sometimes s%$t happens. The manager rushed
over trying to calm me down and make amends.
“Sorry, ma’am. We’ll fix that right away. What was your order?” I realized I
was making a complete fool of myself and calmed the hell down. “I am so
sorry. I just got some bad medical news and I just needed that coffee so very
badly to ease my nerves. Don’t worry about it.” I grabbed what was left of my
coffee and quickly escaped the glares and crazy looks I was receiving inside the
coffee shop. The other patrons gaped in horror as I splattered my hot expensive
cup of coffee all over the counter like a spoiled kid who didn’t get what she
wanted. I felt so totally stupid and embarrassed it was unbelievable. I rushed to
my car, thankful that it wasn’t in a spot right in front of the storefront.
I pulled into traffic quickly and plummeted down the street. I realized I was
suffering from mood swings badly. The people in there probably thought I was
some kind of drug addict coming off of a high or something deranged like that.
I looked at my reflection and guffawed. I couldn’t believe I just went off in
Starbucks. Thank God it wasn’t the one close to my house or close to the shop
because I’d have to reroute to a different Starbucks every time I wanted some
damn coffee. S*&t, I’m too humiliated now to go back to that one.
Cover Art

My novel is finally complete. Here's the cover art for the book. I hope everyone likes it. I do. I think the expression on the model face gives the impression that there's something on her mind, lurking under the surface. She's got that, "umph, umph, umph. I need to pray for you" look on her face. I also like the fact that she's not all glammed up which adds to the relevance of the story inside. This could be me, this could be you, this could be any of us.

It's about time!
So, after much procrastination my final proofing is in its final stages and the light at the end of the tunnel is finally visible. I have gone from a fall release
(because of my birthday in September) to a winter release (A Little Bit of Sin would have made a great Christmas gift!) to a, hopefully, February release.
I am in the process of submitting my proof form and plan to have it done and traveling thru the world wide web by Friday.
In other news, I have joined a slew of social networks lately in an attempt to network with other people, writer, and readers. They include: Snapvine, flux, Goodreads and several new networks on ning.com. So, if any of you are apart of these communities as well...holla at a sistah.

A Little Bit of Sin Synopsis
What makes a good relationship go bad relationship is the million dollar question nowadays; however, what we learn from them as individuals is our own life lesson. Sinatra Graham is a supportive wife, loving mother and savvy business woman who, for all intents and purposes has it going on, until that pivotal ‘one thing’ happens and the domino effect ensues and she’s thrust into a world where nothing is as it appears to be.
Her marriage is not the monogamous picture of perfection that she always assumed it was, her kids are growing up quicker than she’d like and shifting into unruly teen mode, she’s experiencing more drama-filled days at work then she’d like and as if matters couldn’t get any worse her sexy and tempting first love is back on the block which threatens to further shatter her façade of a perfect life.
It appears that all she holds near and dear is transforming around her, and not for the better. Sinatra weighs her options. She can divorce her husband, struggle like the rest of the single moms, be one of her ex’s ‘women’ or she can put her game face on and like assembling the perfect outfit, she can pick and choose, mix and match the shattered pieces of her once perfect existence however she wants and work it to her benefit. What will Sinatra do?
This is the quest I will take my readers on between the pages of A Little Bit of Sin. A little bit of me, you, them, their sister and their cousin; we can all identify with the drama of everyday life. The turmoil, trials and tribulations of others are meant to be a road map or at least food for thought for those stuck in the same or similar situations.
Thank you in advance for you time and consideration of my work. I hope to hear from you soon.
